Notes

This two part Wild About Ojai program starts with a short, easy walk on our own Ventura River Preserve lead by award winning author Richard W. Halsey. There the chaparral will be observed, and a short part of the presentation offered. Following the walk, Mr. Halsey will offer a presentation revealing the secrets of Ojai’s remarkable shrubland wildernes at the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy office from 5 to 6:30 pm. The office is located at 370 W Baldwin Road (the old Honor Farm, now HELP of Ojai’s Center for nonprofits).

The program will explore the chaparral of the Ojai Valley. Chaparral is one of the most misunderstood and underappreciated ecosystems on earth. Join us for this exploration of the chaparral’s unique natural history, discuss its fascinating wildlife populations, and discover why it represents such a vital link to nature for all Californians.

Our guide, Richard W. Halsey, is an ecologist, writer, and the Director of the California Chaparral Field Institute. Mr. Halsey won best non-fiction-local interest book by the San Diego Book Awards Association.
