Leave a Legacy for the Children
Planned giving is a tool that allows you to express your beliefs and values and by giving to the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy you can also leave a legacy for our children. Please call Darcy Gamble the Development Director at the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy 805 649 6852 ext 6 to discuss tax-wise planned giving options. Ultimately your attorney or tax advisor are the people you want to go for advice. You can contact us if you need a referal.
Legacy Club at the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy
In exchange for any verbal or written (revocable & non-revocable) planned giving commitments to the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy you will become part of the Legacy Club at the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy. The significance of having your commitment in writing is that it allows us to better plan for the future. And if you desire in the future your name(s) will become a part of our Legacy Club wall at one of our preserves.
Giving is a very personal choice and we respect your privacy. You can be a part of the Legacy Club anonymously if you choose. Please contact Darcy Gamble to let her know your personal preferences.
If you choose to help us by letting us know of your plans or if you want to become an active member of the Legacy Club please return this Legacy Club (statement of commitment) form to PO Box 1092 Ojai CA 93024 Attn. Darcy or by email to darcy@ovlc.org.
Legacy Club Benefits
This Legacy Club program has recently been resurrected. It is a long-term program and it will be built-up as past commitments become known and the participant list grows. The benefits of participation may shift, change, and become richer as time passes. We hope that taking park in the Legacy Club will be a rewarding experience for you and your family.
- In 2012 if we get a critical mass of Legacy Club forms here at the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy we will put up a Legacy Club wall at one of our properties honoring each family.
- We will include Legacy Club members in our annual celebration to thank those who have made such an impactful commitment to the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy.
- Each new Legacy Club participant will be thanked in an Ojai Valley Land Conservancy newsletter by name or anonymously.
- You will be invited to join us on exclusive hikes and other events.
- You will be invited to an annual update open house each year.
- You will have a direct line to the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy so you can track how we are doing toward reaching our planned giving goals. Please inquire via email only so we can prepare a thoughtful response.
Tax-Wise Planned Giving Options
Bequest: This is the most popular form of planned giving because it is relatively straight forward. To make a bequest all you have to do is make a simple designation in your will or trust. It costs nothing during your lifetime and they are easily revocable if your situation changes.
Living Trust: Avoids probate. Just name the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy as a beneficiary.
Charitable Remainder Trust (Popular with Advisors): This is a great tool for selling assets tax-free and receiving income for life; the remaining assets go to the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy. It provides steady cash flow and can be more beneficial than keeping an asset or selling it outright.
Life Insurance (Cheapest Source of Cash): Donate your policy and deduct future premium payments, or just name the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy as policy beneficiary. Individuals typically pay less than $1 for $1 of coverage.
Retirement Assets (Most Expensive for Children): Retirement funds paid to your kids at your passing can get hit with income and estate taxes, but are tax-free to the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy. Funds left to children may be hit with income and estate tax of 70% or more.
Charitable Lead Trust (Greatly Reduce Estate Tax): You greatly reduce or avoid estate tax on trust assets passing to family… if some trust income goes to the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy for a few years.
Lifetime Bequest (Gift Now + Estate Pledge): A “Lifetime Bequest” is a combination of a gift or pledge now plus an estate gift later to facilitate and maximize the impact of your gift.
Real Estate Gift: Great for making a gift and also transferring the burden of managing the property. It won’t reduce your disposable funds.
Bargain Real Estate Sale: You can sell your property at a discount, deduct the difference, and receive a lump sum or installment payments. It won’t reduce your disposable funds.
Life Estate Deed: You can deed your home or farm property to the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy, save taxes with a current deduction, and still use the property for the rest of your life. It won’t reduce your disposable funds.
Important!
Feel free to inquire about Naming Opportunities in exchange for your non-revocable commitment.
