An 80-acre chaparral ridge located near Thacher School in the east end of Ojai Valley with dramatic topographical relief, plant diversity and important wildlife corridors. The Preserve was donated by the Ilvento Family in 1997 and became the Conservancy’s first successful land acquisition. The Preserve includes at least 150 plant species and a variety of wildlife including, deer, bear, mountain lion and bobcat. The high point is 2,024 feet with panoramic views of the Ojai and Upper Ojai Valleys, as well as, Topa Topa Mountain andChief Peak. Fern grottos, brilliant wildflower displays are a highlight each spring. Coast live oak forests, coastal ash, toyon and several species of sage are found throughout the property. 80% of the Preserve burned during the Ranch Fire in 1999, however the recovery has been steady during the last several years, including brilliant spring wildflower displays. A two mile unmaintained loop trail is accessible from Thacher School near the Gymkhana Field. TheConservancy usually offers two guided walks of the Preserve each year. One in spring to view the wildflowers and one in the Fall to enjoy the coming of Winter. Local schools use the site for field science learning and the Conservancy offers hikes and educational programs at the Preserve. Call the Conservancy office or request more information by emailing ovlc@ovlc.org.
