		<description>The Ventura River Confluence Preserve is the site of the first oil well drilled in Ventura County (1866, it was a dry hole). It is also the site of the headquarters building of the California Petroleum Company that also served as the home of Thomas R. Bard from 1866 to 1873. It was located near the foot of a cliff across San Antonio Creek. The &quot;cliff&quot; is quite visable as it is almost bare of growth. Because this is a significant historic spot, I would like to know if there are any  indications remaining of its existance?</description>
